Ripple launches RLUSD stablecoin in Japan after regulatory approval
Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin is available through SBI VC Trade for both institutional and retail users in the country.
Ripple has officially launched its RLUSD stablecoin in Japan following regulatory approval, making the asset available to both institutional and retail users through local crypto exchange SBI VC Trade. The rollout marks Ripple's first major stablecoin deployment in the Asia-Pacific region under a formal regulatory framework.
RLUSD, which is pegged to the US dollar, was first introduced by Ripple in late 2024 and has since been seeking expansion into regulated markets globally. Japan's Financial Services Agency has established one of the more structured licensing environments for digital assets in Asia, making the country a strategically significant entry point for stablecoin issuers looking to operate within compliant boundaries. SBI VC Trade, a subsidiary of Japanese financial conglomerate SBI Holdings, serves as the designated distribution partner for the product in the country.
The launch positions Ripple alongside other stablecoin issuers competing for market share in Japan, where demand for dollar-denominated digital assets has been growing among both corporate treasuries and individual investors. Japan's openness to regulated stablecoin frameworks, reinforced by legislative updates in recent years, has made it an attractive destination for global crypto firms seeking legitimate footholds in Asia.
Market observers will be watching whether the RLUSD rollout in Japan accelerates adoption across other Asian jurisdictions and whether additional exchange partners join SBI VC Trade in distributing the stablecoin domestically.
