DTCC begins first tokenized stock and Treasury production trades involving JPMorgan, BlackRock and Goldman: WSJ
JPMorgan will tokenize part of its Invesco QQQ Trust holdings held at DTCC, while Microsoft, Circle, and SPY shares will also be tokenized.
The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) has launched its first tokenized stock and Treasury production trades, marking a significant operational milestone for Wall Street's central clearing infrastructure. The initiative involves major financial institutions including JPMorgan, BlackRock, and Goldman Sachs. As part of the effort, JPMorgan will tokenize a portion of its Invesco QQQ Trust holdings currently held at DTCC, while shares of Microsoft and SPY, along with Circle-related assets, are also being brought onto the blockchain-based system.
The move represents a concrete step toward integrating distributed ledger technology into the existing financial market infrastructure. DTCC, which processes trillions of dollars in securities transactions annually, has been exploring tokenization frameworks for several years. The participation of institutions of this scale signals that tokenized securities are moving beyond pilot programs and into live production environments.
The development carries broad implications for how traditional financial assets are held, transferred, and settled. Tokenization of equities and Treasuries could reduce settlement times, lower counterparty risk, and improve collateral mobility across markets. The involvement of firms like BlackRock and Goldman Sachs, both of which have significant asset management and trading operations, lends further institutional credibility to the infrastructure shift.
Market participants will be watching closely to see how the DTCC expands the scope of eligible assets, which additional institutions join the network, and whether regulatory bodies provide formal guidance on the treatment of tokenized securities under existing frameworks.
