BlackRock debuts tokenized access to $311 billion of money market funds in Europe

BlackRock has launched tokenized access to its money market funds in Europe, opening up a portfolio valued at approximately $311 billion to blockchain-based investment infrastructure. The asset management giant introduced the offering as part of its expanding push into digital asset products, allowing institutional investors in the region to access the funds through tokenized representations on distributed ledger technology.

The move builds on BlackRock's broader strategy to integrate blockchain technology into traditional financial products. The firm previously launched its USD Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund, known as BUIDL, on the Ethereum network in 2024, which grew rapidly to become one of the largest tokenized funds in the market. The European expansion represents a significant geographic broadening of that initiative.

The development carries notable implications for the tokenized real-world assets sector, which has been gaining traction among institutional players seeking greater efficiency in settlement, transparency, and liquidity management. BlackRock's scale and reputation in traditional finance lends considerable weight to the tokenization narrative, potentially encouraging other major asset managers to accelerate similar programs across European markets.

Observers will be watching closely for regulatory responses from European financial authorities, as well as the pace of institutional adoption following the launch. The growth trajectory of the BUIDL fund and any formal partnerships with blockchain infrastructure providers are also expected to serve as key indicators of how the product performs in its early phase.
