$1.9 trillion asset manager T. Rowe Price launches first actively managed multi-token crypto ETF

T. Rowe Price, one of the world's largest asset managers with approximately $1.9 trillion in assets under management, launched its first actively managed multi-token cryptocurrency ETF on Thursday. The product, branded as the TKNZ Active Crypto ETF, began trading following the firm's initial filing for the vehicle in October of last year.

The launch marks a significant step for T. Rowe Price, a firm traditionally known for its equity and fixed-income strategies, into the digital asset space. The actively managed structure distinguishes TKNZ from passive crypto ETFs, such as the spot Bitcoin and Ether products that received regulatory approval in the United States in 2024, as it allows portfolio managers to make discretionary allocation decisions across multiple tokens rather than tracking a single asset.

The entry of a firm of T. Rowe Price's scale into actively managed crypto products signals continued institutional appetite for digital asset exposure beyond Bitcoin. It also reflects growing confidence among legacy financial institutions that regulatory conditions in the United States are sufficiently stable to support a broader range of crypto investment vehicles.

Investors and industry observers will be watching how TKNZ performs relative to passive crypto benchmarks, which tokens the fund selects for its portfolio, and whether the launch encourages other large asset managers to file for similar actively managed multi-token products in the months ahead.
